Folk Alliance Region West (FAR-West) is the West-coast region of Folk Alliance International. FAR-West is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization incorporated in the State of California in 2003. The organization is run entirely by volunteers; there are no paid staff members.
FAR-West fosters and promotes traditional, contemporary and multicultural folk music, dance and related performing arts in the Western states.
One way we work on this is to present our annual FAR-West Conference each fall, one of five regional Folk Alliance Conferences. The annual FAR-West conference provides a three-day, music-filled weekend for the folk and acoustic music community to unite, exchange songs and ideas, re-charge and do business.
The goal of FAR-West is to strengthen the folk and acoustic community and facilitate networks and development.
Our conference program includes educational panels, workshops and collaborations, an Exhibit Hall, Official Showcases and late night showcases run by participants.
