FAR-West Board of Directors Election Results

Hello everyone. Steve Brogden here. FAR-West president. It gives me great pleasure to announce that we have re-elected Steve Dulson, Cindy Bottomley, and Marni Rachmiel to the FAR-West board of directors.

We have also elected a new board member, Mark Kaufman, whose term will expire in 2015. Mark moved from Boston to Olympia, WA in 2009 and started the Olympia Acoustic Music concert series in January 2010. Last year, he served as PGS coordinator for the 2011 Eugene conference and will play that role again for the 2012 conference. In addition, Mark is managing and updating the FAR-West website and conference pages.

Just a reminder to anyone who wants to nominate someone for this year's Best of the West awards.  Nominations for either category will close at 5pm on April 2.

The Best of the West Awards were established by FAR-West in 2005 to honor individuals who have maintained an enduring presence in the folk and acoustic music scene in the West, inspiring others by embodying folk values and traditions. Nominations are now open for both the performer and ambassador categories to be honored at the 2012 FAR-West Conference.

FAR-West Panels and Workshops Input

Panel and Workshop Co-Coordinators, Steve Brandick & Gigi Johnson, are busy planning FAR-West 2012 panels and workshops. They are gearing up for 12 sessions of various lengths on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20, plus two master classes on Sunday, Oct. 21. They would like your input about what you would like to learn, what skills you would like to gain, and what things you would like to help you grow in your role as a FAR-West member. There was no "Best of the West" award at the first annual FAR-West conference in 2004.

FAR-WEST 2012 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Early Bird Registration for FAR-West 2012 is now open. All events for this year's conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, CA. Conference prices have been kept low and early bird is an especially good deal. Register before July 31 and save!

As in past years, we will have Official Showcases, panels and workshops, late night Guerilla Showcases, Best of the West awards luncheon, and a Networking Center. This year on Sunday, we've added a brunch along with master classes and a contra dance. You will have opportunities to connect with others in the world of folk music from all over the western US and Canada, learn, share, interact, network, and most of all, hear great music.

Here are a couple of things to note as you register and make your plans:

- Priority for Susanne Millsaps showcasing will be given based on registration order.

- The Panels and Workshop Coordinators have a survey on their page to gather your input. Give them feedback on what topics you would like to see.
