Folk Alliance Region West (FAR-West) is pleased to announce the Panels & Workshops schedule for this year's FAR-West Music Conference. Co-chairs Steve Brandick & Gigi Johnson have organized a great set of learning opportunities for conference participants for all three days of the conference. Official Showcase Schedule 2012

Folk Alliance Region West (FAR-West) and Peggy Glenn and Laure Falter, Co-Chairs of the Official Showcase Committee, are pleased to announce the Official Showcase schedule for this year's FAR-West Music Conference.  Please note that there are a couple of important changes this year from prior years.  This year's Official Showcases will start 30 minutes earlier to accommodate spaces for the "Best of the West" Performer honoree one night and a Storyteller the other night.

Storytelling has been added this year to accommodate the FAR-West mission statement which reads in part that FAR-West "promotes traditional, contemporary and multicultural folk music, dance and related performing arts".  We have a truly wonderful professional storyteller for you this year and strongly encourage everyone to be there to support and experience the craft.

Also changed this year is the spacing around the Official Showcases. There is a full 90 minutes scheduled for a dinner break prior to the start of official showcases and a full 30 minutes after the Official Showcases end before the start of the PGS rooms.  This means that everyone should be able to attend and enjoy the Official Showcases without having to arrive late or leave early.

The 9th Annual FAR-West Music Conference will take place October 18-21 in Irvine, CA.  All events for this year's conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Irvine -- just off the 405 freeway near John Wayne Airport.

Folk Alliance Region West (FAR-West) has quietly become the premiere annual conference for acoustic musicians and related industries on the west coast. Now in its ninth year, the annual FAR-West conference has grown into a vibrant and productive event, attracting musicians, bands, venues, DJs, managers, agents, instrument makers, CD manufacturers and others to come together for purposes of networking and growing as a community. The FAR-West experience has been universally praised for its welcoming, accepting and encouraging atmosphere as well as its truly diverse musical environment.

This year's conference will have official showcase opportunities, panels and workshops, plenty of late night "guerrilla" showcases, a "Best of the West" awards luncheon, a networking center, master classes, a contra dance, a wrap-up brunch on Sunday morning and more.  (Both the awards luncheon and the wrap-up brunch are included in the cost of registration!)  This year's Best of the West honorees are folk singer Barry McGuire and Arhoolie Records founder Chris Strachwitz.

Program Book Ads Available - Deadline for Artwork 9/24/12

An ad in the program book is a GREAT, inexpensive way to get your name, face, and contact information in front of so many people.  The book also has the attendee directory included so this is a book people will keep.  Let people know when and where you are performing, about your new CD project or just that you say hi to the attendees.

There are several size ads available.  The covers, printed in full color on 16 point gloss cover stock are already sold out!

Program Book Advertising information:
Full Page: (7-1/2" wide x 10" high) - $100
Half Page: (7-1/2" wide x 4-7/8" high) - $65
Quarter Page: (3-1/2" wide x 4-7/8" high) - $55

You don't have to attend the conference to place an ad in the Program Book.  If you know a company or organization who would be interested in placing an ad, please have them contact Julie directly (contact info below.)

Additional Artwork Details: All interior ads are black and white (except the front inside, and back inside and outside covers).  We can accept the ad as a PDF, tiff, jpg, eps.  300 DPI at 100% or greater resolution for suggested quality output.  We also accept native QuarkXpress for Mac files, but please be sure fonts are converted to outlines and graphics are included.

New PGS Rooms Listed

There are a number of new PGS rooms listed in the past week for artists looking for performing opportunities at the October conference. Email information is included for those hosts who are taking requests. Please contact them directly. New room listings are added as they are reserved, so check the website regularly.

Tote Bags Anyone?

The FAR-West Tote Bag is a great way to get your name, CD, showcase schedule, smiling face, logo or any other promotional items out to your fellow attendees. You can sign up during the online registration process.

Tote Bag Sponsor:
For the incredibly low price of only $110. you can be a tote bag sponsor. You get your name or logo imprinted onto the tote bag as well as an item inserted. The items can be anything you wish from 1-sheet flyers to CD's to promotional items.  Please send your logo or artwork you wish to have printed on the totebag to julie@jrp-graphics.com no later than September 10. Preferred format is Adobe Illustrator eps, but will accept Adobe Photoshop .tiff.  All text saved to outlines, please.

Tote Bag Item Insert Only:
This is for anyone who would like to include an item to be stuffed into the Tote bags for only $65. The items can be anything you wish from 1-sheet flyers to CD's to promotional items.

To participate, you must provide 400 items (that's our current best guess - you will be notified if this number changes). Items can be shipped, at your cost, to the Trobridge residence, arriving no later than Wednesday, October 17. Contact TerriTro@att.net off list for the address. You can also bring any last minute items to the Hyatt Regency Irvine before the Thursday afternoon, October 18, Tote Bag Stuffing Party.

If you've already registered and wish to add an insert, go back to FAR-West.org and click on the registration link again. Log in and click on "Already Registered", go to "Finalize" and you will reach the Merchandise page, where you can select the items you want or email Julie Paris, treasurer, and she will add it for you and charge your credit card.
