From Wes Weddell:
With the conference right around the corner (woo-hoo!), your Seattle-area Boots-on-the-Ground wanted to provide some more detailed transportation information in addition to what's listed on the FAR-West site. For folk arriving at Seattle/Tacoma International Airport, the taxi, Shuttle Express, and Sound Transit bus options (#560) listed at the bottom of www.far-west.org/hotel2017.
If you're coming in Wednesday (10/4) for the Pre-Conference Open-Stage at Dusty Strings in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood, you can taxi, Shuttle Express, Uber/Lyft/etc. straight there, or take the Link Light Rail to downtown Seattle (~45 min) and then bus/cab/Uber/etc. to the Fremont neighborhood: 3406 Fremont Ave. N (98103). For bussing, hop a #40 or #62 route heading north on 3rd Ave. (the transit tunnel through which Link Light Rail passes goes under 3rd Ave. - University Street Station is a good one to make the transfer). If you're a Car2Go user (and traveling light), that's another option, either from downtown or the airport itself: www.car2go.com/US/en/seattle/
Event details here:
ml (Dusty Strings retail store will close at 6:00pm; doors for the event will open at 7:00).
Those taking Amtrak and arriving at King Street Station in Seattle can bus/cab/Uber/etc. as well (Car2Go does not serve Bellevue). If heading to the hotel (900 Bellevue Way; 98004) via bus, walk a short distance to the International District Metro Station and take a #550 bus, which will drop you just a short distance from the Hyatt. If heading to Dusty Strings via bus, find your way to 3rd Ave. anywhere north of Yesler St. (not far) and follow instructions in the preceding paragraph.
Both King Country Metro (bus) and Sound Transit (light rail/bus) have useful Trip Planner functions on their websites if you want to enter addresses and map things for yourself: https://tripplanner.kingcounty.
(And, of course, a lot of smartphone map-apps have a lot of this information integrated as well!)
We encourage folk looking to ride-share to post their arrival itineraries. Shuttle Express (vans) in particular is a good, budget-conscious way to pile in - less expensive than a taxi, less time than the bus. (Fremont is a neat neighborhood, so arriving early Wed. would offer some fun exploring: https://fremont.com/ ,
Looking forward to seeing everyone - safe travels!
