PRODUCER, SCREENWRITER AND MUSIC SUPERVISOR
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2018
4:30 to 6:00 PM
VENTURA ROOM, WARNER CENTER MARRIOTT,
WOODLAND HILLS, CA
Go inside one of the greatest-ever untold stories: how the ordinary people of America were given the opportunity to make records for the first time.
American Epic is a multi award-winning, 3-part documentary series, directed by Bernard MacMahon, about the first recordings of rural music in the U.S.A. and their cultural, social and technological impact on the world.
Our special guest Allison McGourty, (the BAFTA nominated creator, writer, producer and music supervisor) will be showing a portion of the documentary series at a Saturday Matinee screening and workshop in a unique presentation for FAR-West attendees.
Ms. McGourty will screen selections of clips from the films, discuss details and share stories about the scope and depth of the entire project: The American Epic trilogy, The American Epic Sessions and the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools’ 9-month educational program based on the "American Epic" films, music and book.
Allison McGourty is the BAFTA nominated creator, producer and writer of the Emmy Award nominated American Epic documentary film series. Artists of focus in the series include The Carter Family, Mississippi John Hurt, Charlie Patton, The Memphis Jug Band and many others who were uncovered during this remarkable multi-cultural American talent search and the recordings that resulted.
Ms McGourty also produced and wrote The American Epic Sessions, an award-winning musical film which includes contributions from Steve Martin, Elton John, Alabama Shakes, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Jack White, Taj Mahal, Pokey LaFarge and Rhiannon Giddens. The track “Killer Diller Blues” by Alabama Shakes won the 2018 Grammy for Best American Roots Performance.
Among its many additional honors, American Epic won the Foxtel Audience Award at the Sydney Film Festival and the Audience Award and Discovery Award at the Calgary International Film Festival. For more information on American Epic go to www.americanepic.com
You will want to be part of the audience when American Epic comes to FAR-West!
